What keeps you using Linux or contributing to open source?

Linux and open source have survived countless predictions that one or the other would become irrelevant. Instead, they keep appearing underneath everything from development environments to cloud infrastructure, servers, embedded devices, research systems, and personal computers.

But people come to this ecosystem for very different reasons.

Maybe you love the control Linux gives you. Maybe you want a lightweight development environment. Maybe you enjoy customizing everything. Maybe you dislike closed systems. Maybe you simply enjoy understanding what your computer is doing.

Open source is equally broad. Some people contribute code, others write documentation, fix bugs, design interfaces, answer questions, maintain packages, translate projects, create plugins, or simply use and report problems.

What keeps you involved?
